Brand Strategy

I love discovering that ‘special something’– the fiery founder story, the inspiring behind-the-scenes work, the epic community impact – that makes the causes I’m working on unique from everything else. I weave that brand into messaging for the right audiences, through the right channels, at the right moment.

Writing & Content Marketing

I believe that every word is an opportunity to reinforce your brand story and invite somebody new into your world. I got my start in journalism, so I love writing and have an eye for detail.

MEMBERSHIP & COMMUNITY Experience Design

The best way to create excellent experiences for your supporters is by getting out of our heads and into their shoes. I regularly use customer journey mapping as a tool to understand community experience, identify their pain points, and see where we can do better.

I’m Elise Granata, a marketer, community experience designer, and cheerleader for great storytelling. I’ve spent 10 years in the arts and social purpose organizations, working with community spaces, arts non-profits, and body-positive punk gyms alike. I’m currently the Brand & Community Experience Manager at the MAH where I’ve worked since 2013. In that time, I’ve built the MAH's storytelling strategy from the ground up, strengthened membership acquisitions and renewals, and designed great experiences for the one-of-a-kind Santa Cruz community.

I grew up on the east coast and studied writing and creative management at SUNY Purchase College. I currently live in Santa Cruz, California. I am also the founder of the epic social experience POWER HOUR OF FUN.

I’d love to connect with you. E-mail me at elisegranata@gmail.com or send me an invite on LinkedIn.

Transforming a Museum for the People

The MAH is a museum in Santa Cruz, California that was about to die in 2011 but then shifted from an ‘art-first’ to a ‘people-first’ mission, transforming it into a thriving creative community hub. We increased attendance 9x. Quadrupled our budget. Turned an exclusive space for mostly white, wealthy art lovers into a mirror for the passions of everyone in Santa Cruz County. It’s become an example for other cultural centers struggling to survive around the world.

I got a front seat to this turnaround. I began working there at the heart of this change in 2013 and have been promoted three times. I led communications throughout this entire transformation: I was there from the scrappy start as a marketing team of one, changing the way the MAH was perceived in the community. I continued on into a more mature era, leading a communications team of my own and building pathways for the thousands of members, volunteers, co-creators, and supporters who made the MAH their home.
